President's Message

Fellow ASHRAE Members,

My hope is you have had a great time with family and friends over the holidays. Mine was definitely exciting with 11 of my 12 children at home with associated spouses, grandchildren, children's fiancées and numerous friends. We also had a marriage celebration (my fifth child to be married) with my 21 year old daughter tying the knot on December 22nd to a fine man. We celebrated the birth of our Savior, Jesus, went to a Christmas- eve service and took in a New Year's celebration with some old friends. Oh, and our nation has avoided the "fiscal cliff" with a last second agreement.

Now, we must get back into our routine again. Before you just do what you've done before make sure you have rethought your goals and objectives for your life. I've tried to do that at least every 6 months or so to bring into focus my life and where it needs to be; trying to discern the urgent things from the really important things I spend time on. Then we make plans to accomplish and not have regrets when we come to the end of life. Hopefully, you are excited about 2013 and the opportunities it will bring.

Our January 16th ASHRAE meeting will have an exciting agenda with my friends and highly qualified Randy Wynn and Johnny Atherton.  Our technical session will host Randy, who is an engineer at Alabama Power Company (sister of my company, Mississippi Power) with a great background in Heat Recovery. He has worked intimately with customers on energy efficiency projects, developing over a dozen Heat Recovery projects ranging in size from 20 to 900 tons.  Our luncheon session will host Johnny Atherton, MPC's Vice President of Corporate Services and Community Relations, who will speak on our Kemper project; the Integrated Gasification Combine Cycle generator which incorporates Mississippi's lignite coal, capturing ~60% of the carbon dioxide emissions and selling it to our MS oil fields to enhance oil production.

Please consider coming and being a part of our Chapter. We appreciate your service to better mankind's comfort and productivity.
