August 20, 2009: Robert F. Logsdon, a founding member of the Louisville Chapter, passed away on August 20. He was 94. Bob was a Chemistry graduate of Ohio State (1938 and 1941) and took additional classes from IU (1965). During WWII he worked as a chemistry laboratory supervisor at the Charlestown, Indiana ammunition plant. In January of 1945 he started his long career with American Air Filter advancing from Development Engineer through Manager of Engineering, Manager of Advanced Products and finally Manager of Marketing for Nuclear Environmental Systems, from which he retired in 1977.
Bob was a long standing ASHRAE member, having originally joined ASHVE in 1954. He was elected to Fellow grade in 1984. He received the very first ASHRAE Exceptional Service Award in 1998. He was also a receipt of the Distinguished Service Award, the Regional Award of Merit, the Chapter Service Award and the Distinguished 50 Year Member Award.
Bob held all positions in the Louisville Chapter, including President in 1960-1961, and had a continuing relationship with the Chapter ever since, culminating in his appointment as Honorary Chair of the 2009 Annual Conference last June.
Bob began his ASHRAE Regional and Society activity as Co-Chair of what was then TC 9.4 (now 5.4) in 1958. He was the original (1966) Chairman of the Standards Project Committee for what is now Standard 52.1. He also chaired the R " T Committee (1969-72), the Presidential Committee on Information Retrieval (1972), and served as a member of many other Society level committees over the years, including Standards; Membership; Nominating; and Honors and Awards. He was Region VII Director and Regional Chair from 1978 to 1982.
We will all miss Bob's sharp wit, good advice and leadership, and his dedicated service to ASHRAE and the Louisville Chapter. Our deepest sympathies go to Eloise and Bob's extended family.
Matt Hargan, P.E., FASHRAE
